Traveling around Downtown is easy with the Miami Valley Regional Transit Authority (RTA).  Dayton is one of only five cities in the country to offer a unique and environmentally responsible form of mass transit. RTA's electric trolleys offer year-round transit throughout the Dayton area.

Cultural attractions abound here. The world-class Schuster Performing Arts Center hosts performances by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Ballet. The Dayton Art Institute is a beautiful Italian-Renaissance style building overlooking Downtown and houses over 20,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of art history.

Aviation buffs will enjoy the National Aviation Hall of Fame, the National Museum of the United States Air force, the Huffman Prairie Flying Field where the Wright Brothers perfected their aircraft before their flight to Kitty Hawk, and the John W. Berry Wright Brothers Aviation Center, where the 1905 Wright Flyer III is currently on display.

The Five Rivers MetroParks system offers green spaces among lovely public parks, scenic river corridors and more than 70 miles of scenic paved footpaths and biking trails. The nationally acclaimed parks system serves the Greater Dayton area and consists of 18 individual metroparks and nearly 16,000 acres of year-round recreation and rejuvenation.

Unique Living
Eclectic shopping and distinctive residential spaces are easy to find among the variety of beautiful and historic neighborhoods in the Dayton area.
     
Located near Downtown, the Oregon Historic District is the oldest neighborhood and the first designated historic district in the city. It is one of the most spirited communities with superb examples of art and architecture. Historical buildings, antique shops, cafes, street vendors, and musicians give this community some flair. The residential area has many beautifully restored homes.

The Webster Station Historic District features Roman and Sullivan-styled architecture. Currently, many of the old grocery-related buildings have been revamped into The Cannery development, a conglomeration of urban-living lofts and chic shops, pubs, eateries, art galleries and a farmers market known as the National City Second Street Public Market. This historic refurbished railroad freight house offers an enclosed produce pavilion and nearly 50 local farm, garden, food, home décor and gift vendors.

Courthouse Square is an open-air entertainment facility adjacent to the Old Court House at the corner of Third and Main Streets. Throughout the year the square plays host to numerous events including memorials, fund raisers, rallies, farmers’ market, concerts and much more. Tunes @ Noon is downtown Dayton’s longest running free, outdoor concert series featuring some of the best in local entertainment. Summer time on the square offers a welcome opportunity for the downtown workforce and visitors to take a few moments to enjoy the summer air, food, fun and performances from some of the region’s best artists.

Located just south of downtown Dayton, Oakwood is an upscale neighborhood complete with fine historical homes and tree-lined streets. One of the city's early residents was Orville Wright, whose stately home still stands at the corner of Harman and Park Avenues. John Patterson, founder of the National Cash Register Co. (NCR) also called Oakwood home. Along Far Hills Avenue, residents enjoy the city's quaint shops and restaurants.

Get Your Game On
The Dayton Dragons rule the bases at the beautiful Fifth Third Field, a 7,000-seat ballpark in the heart of downtown. This Class-A Cincinnati Reds affiliate is the first and only team in minor league history to sell out an entire season before it began, and the team continues to play before sell-out crowds.

The Dayton Bombers Professional “AA” Hockey team takes on the best of the East Coast Hockey League with more than 36 home games at Wright State University’s Ervin J. Nutter Center.

Rob Dyrdek star of MTV’s Rob and Big helped put skateboarding in Dayton on the map.  The Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Foundation Skate Plaza in Kettering is the first of its kind with about 40,000 square feet of urban-style skating terrain such as benches, rails, and ledges.

Kettering Medical Center has been identified as a top hospital in endocrinology care and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders while Miami Valley Hospital has been ranked as a top orthopedic hospital by U.S .News & World Report. Miami Valley also provides emergency air transport through its Care Flight program.

The VA Medical Center in Dayton is one of the oldest VA facilities, established by Abraham Lincoln in 1865. Today, the 358-acre campus offers walking and motorized trails featuring historic sites.
